Williston Wins Mary Clark Award

At the GFWC Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs 114th Annual Convention held April 17-19, 2009 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, both the GFWC Williston Woman’s Club and the GFWC Williston Junior Woman’s Club received recognition for their hard work in 2008.

The GFWC Williston Junior Woman’s Club received the Mary Clark Award which is awarded to the most outstanding Junior Club in the state. The Mary Clark Award was named after Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Clark, the first elected FFWC Director of Junior Clubs. In recognition of the Florida Juniors’ outstanding community service, Mr. Arthur Yates of Yates Jewelers in Tampa, donated a silver tea service to Florida Juniors in Mary Clark’s name. This tea service is a revolving award and will hold a place of honor with the Williston Juniors until the next Convention in April 2010. The Mary Clark Award was presented to the Williston Juniors for their outstanding work in 2008 in all the General Federation of Women’s Club’s focus areas. These areas include the six departments of club work (Arts, Conservation, Public Affairs, International Affairs, Homelife and Education), Meeting Programs, Leadership, Fundraising, Public Relations, and Juniors Special Project: One Voice for Children. This is the first time in the club’s 59 year history that they have received the Mary Clark Award.

In addition to the Mary Clark Award the club also received a $1000 Florida Juniors' Special Project: One Voice for Children Grant.  This grant was applied for in the name of the Guardian Foundation and will go to help children in Guardian ad Litem.
